Why mounting on the body is the Achilles’ heels of Police Body Cameras

The amount of police body camera manufacturers currently in the market is overwhelming. That means law enforcement agencies have too many options to choose from when shopping for body cameras. But that doesn’t mean most of them are high-quality products. Some manufacturers seem to not have a comprehensive understanding of their customers’ needs. Thus, failing to develop some key features their products should have. Mounting on the body is one of the biggest issues police body camera manufacturers face, and most of them don’t seem to be trying to fix it or still haven’t found a way.

Police body camera clips are, often, clunky and don’t allow for a wide variety of mounting options. Many manufacturers don’t take into consideration police officers have different statures and body types, and coming up with different mounts for different parts of the uniform could be an easy fix to that issue. Most times, officers only have the option to mount the cameras on the front of their uniform, and that’s it. If the unit is aiming too high or too low, there’s no way they can fix it seeing as most police body cameras have a fixed camera lens – which brings us to another solution to the problem. A camera that features a rotatable lens expands its mounting capability, allowing officers to place the unit wherever they like.

Limited mounting capability is an issue that can be easily solved if manufacturers really put their hearts into it. The technology is out there and some companies have already figured all that out. But the vast majority doesn’t seem to care or doesn’t want to invest in coming up with new designs. The market for police body cameras has been growing exponentially and is projected to be a billion-dollar industry within the next 5 years. Everyone can get a piece of it if they design high-quality products with their clients’ best interest in mind.
