Lt. Michael Garcia said his department has been using body camerassince 2009 for liability protection. “There are several overhead cameras in the jail, but they don’t all have audio, so this is another way to capture the police officers’ point of view for liability protection,” said Garcia.
The department consists of 25 correctional police officers. “Over the summer we studied upgrading the body cameras to a newer model. Someone mentioned WOLFCOM and we checked it out and decided to get a few to test…. Our police officers like the ease of use of the WOLFCOM police body camera and that you can just put it on easy mode. The WOLFCOM body camera is just easier and more reliable to use overall compared to our previous police body cameras…. The video quality is just as good if not better. Our officers have reacted positively and it’s been great,” said Garcia.
“The cameras have been helpful in several incidents involving inmate complaints where they claim an officer did or said something, then we went and looked at the video and proved that didn’t happen,” said Garcia.
